5 Key Resources I Used to Rebrand my Business + A Rebranding Checklist

5 Key Resources I Used to Rebrand my Boutique PR Firm

What to Know Before Rebranding Your Business

I announced the rebrand of my Los Angeles PR firm The Storied Group at the beginning of this year. It was many months in the making, and required so many moving parts that included a name change, logo design and website redesign.

If it sounds overwhelming, that’s not even the half of it! Every single account I had needed to be changed—from my bank account to filing with the State to our entire company’s email addresses.

IS YOUR HEAD EXPLODING? Because mine just did all over again! But not to worry, you can click here to get my rebrand checklist so you have everything in one place.  I have so much information to share, but I wanted to start with five key rebranding steps to help you execute your vision.

Each recommendation below was instrumental in helping me acheive my vision and all get a five star rating. And if you’re looking for some key takeaways to level up your business, check out the next level video series I did with Jasmine Star that will help you do just that!

  1. StoryBrand: This is a book that you will likely get tired of hearing me talk about. It seriously changed the way I approached the messaging of my website for The Storied Group. One of my biggest values is clarity, and I love that StoryBrand shares that value. This book will help you clarify your message and eliminate confusion to grow your business. After all, if people don’t understand what you do, they will not hire you.
  2. Copy Writer: There comes a point when you are just too close to your own messaging to get any perspective. While I love writing and playing with copy, I needed a fresh set of eyes for my new website. I utilized two of my best friends—both in PR—to help, and then hired a copy writer to give the final flourish.
  3. Naming Company & Logo Designer: For as long as I can remember, I had tried to come up with a new name for my blog, as well as my PR firm. The best money I spent was hiring Fuse Branding for both. They completely understood both of my brands and nailed the names on the first pass. I also utilized Meg Co Creative to tweak my final logo for The Storied Group.
  4. Photography: I hired my friend and fabulous colleague Ashley Burns photography to help us execute a holiday card specifically designed with our rebrand in mind. I had the idea to shoot on a rooftop as a play on The Storied Group (get it?!), and Ashley had the genius idea for us to all wear black at golden hour. With all the digital noise, sending an actual physical card is a way to stand out.
  5. Website Redesign: I have used SquareSpace for my business website for years because I love how easy it is to use and has built in SEO capabilities, as well as really easy to understand analytics. I have become a little bit of a tech nerd and really love tweaking my own websites. For the rebrand, I really wanted a sophisticated look with a very modern template. After a lot of research, I decided to purchase a customizable template from Go Live HQ. While I wasn’t anticipating how much work it would be to implement the design, I love the outcome and don’t think I could have gotten anything better for the price. They also had good customer service and helped me solve a few problems I had with formatting.
